A man underwent a horrific knife attack that resulted in the severing of his penis, yet he astonishingly responded with unexpected resilience despite enduring significant harm. The brutal incident occurred at a cafe on Ganghwa Island in South Korea, where a woman, driven by jealousy, launched a violent assault on her husband whom she suspected of infidelity. The 58-year-old assailant, identified as A, was later found guilty of causing severe bodily harm during the early morning assault in August 2024.

According to court documents, the victim, aged 50, had been drinking alone in the cafe and had fallen asleep when the attack took place. The woman’s son-in-law, a 40-year-old individual known as B, arrived at the scene and restrained the victim using rope and industrial tape.

Taking advantage of her husband’s vulnerable state, the woman repeatedly stabbed him and then used a sharp object to detach his penis, which she subsequently disposed of by flushing it down the cafe’s toilet, preventing any possibility of reattachment by surgeons as revealed in court proceedings.

Emergency responders discovered the injured man and swiftly transported him to the hospital, where he underwent immediate surgery and survived. However, medical professionals noted that he suffered permanent physical injuries along with severe psychological trauma.

Despite the horrendous nature of the attack, the victim later reached a settlement with his wife and formally requested the court to show her leniency. Judges took his plea into consideration during the sentencing process.

The woman was sentenced to seven years in prison, while her son-in-law received a four-year jail term for his involvement in restraining the victim. Both individuals appeared in the Incheon District Court on separate occasions in January.

Authorities stated that the woman meticulously planned the assault after becoming convinced of her husband’s infidelity. Investigators also disclosed that she had engaged her daughter to assist in monitoring him.

Subsequently, the couple’s daughter was fined for unlawfully tracking her father using GPS devices acquired through an unlicensed private investigator. The incident has had a profound impact in South Korea, with judges deeming the attack unusually violent despite the victim’s plea for compassion.
