Jesy Nelson shared her heartache over her twin daughters’ condition. The singer, who is a mother to Ocean Jade and Story Monroe with musician Zion Foster, expressed her anguish as her daughters have to endure wearing spinal jackets and splints during the current heatwave in the UK. She emphasized the necessity of these devices to prevent further deterioration of their spines and feet, due to their spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) diagnosis since January 2026.
Despite the challenges her daughters face, Jesy has been resilient in advocating for early SMA testing for newborns. Her efforts have been met with support from celebrities like Dani Dyer and Billie Shepherd, who praised her for being a dedicated mother.
Recently, Jesy celebrated a milestone as one of her daughters achieved the ability to sit up in her wheelchair, a significant accomplishment given the limitations of Type 1 SMA. She continues to raise awareness and lobby for nationwide newborn screening, following her disappointment with the current partial implementation plan by the NHS.
Jesy’s emotional plea for improved testing resonated with her followers and supporters, highlighting the urgency to prevent unnecessary suffering for future SMA-affected children. Despite setbacks, Jesy remains determined to push for accessible and comprehensive newborn screening to ensure a better future for affected families.
