Jesy Nelson has shared an update on her twin daughters’ ongoing health challenges. The former Little Mix member, aged 34, confirmed that her baby girls have recently been provided with leg splints. This development comes as the infants, born in May 2025, are still grappling with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1), a genetic neuromuscular disorder.
The diagnosis was made in January, with SMA1 causing muscle weakness by impacting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord. This particular type of SMA is both the most prevalent and severe, resulting in a life expectancy of less than two years without medical intervention for individuals like Ocean and Story.
Jesy has been transparent about her children’s health journey on social media, with her latest Instagram post reflecting her emotional response to the girls’ new splints. She expressed her sorrow over the necessity of correcting their foot positioning, highlighting the ongoing challenges they are facing. Displaying the splints, Jesy showcased the adorable butterfly designs on Ocean’s pair.
Additionally, Jesy allowed cameras to document her pregnancy before giving birth and intends to continue filming their experiences despite the difficult circumstances. In a recent Q&A session, she emphasized the importance of raising awareness about SMA and her efforts to incorporate SMA testing into routine screenings. Jesy believes that sharing her story will contribute to positive change and appreciates the support she has received in spreading awareness about her journey.
