Comedian Josh Widdicombe has revealed that becoming one of the new presenters on Strictly Come Dancing has caused some tension at home. The speculation over who would take over from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman was put to rest this week with the announcement that Josh, Emma Willis, and dancer Johannes Radebe would form the new presenting team.
Before the official announcement by the BBC, Josh faced inquiries from his family about securing the coveted role. He admitted to lying to his loved ones until the news was made public. Discussing the situation on his Parenting Hell podcast with fellow comedian Rob Beckett, Josh expressed relief that the secret was finally out.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain prior to the official unveiling, Josh avoided confirming his new role as a Strictly host, leading to playful banter with Rob about his evasive tactics. Even at home, Josh refrained from sharing the news with his children, eight-year-old daughter Pearl and five-year-old son Cassius, as he doubted they could keep it under wraps.
Josh mentioned on the podcast that he had yet to inform his kids about the development, highlighting his reluctance to trust them with such significant information. His recent relocation with his family to Exeter, almost 200 miles away from the Strictly filming location in Borehamwood, will notably impact his new role as a presenter on the show.
Reflecting on the move, Josh explained that they had extensively researched the area before deciding to relocate, emphasizing their satisfaction with the new environment. Having previously participated in Strictly’s Christmas Special in 2024, Josh expressed his excitement and honor at stepping into the prominent television role.
