Kemi Badenoch Slams Tory Defectors in Bold Speech

Published on

Kemi Badenoch strongly criticized former Conservative members who switched allegiances to join Nigel Farage’s Reform UK in a fiery speech. The Conservative leader accused the defectors of displaying “a tantrum disguised as politics” and specifically targeted Nadhim Zahawi, Robert Jenrick, Andrew Rosindell, and Suella Braverman for their recent party changes.

In reference to Robert Jenrick, who was ousted as Shadow Justice Secretary by Ms. Badenoch, she expressed regret that he did not secure the Tory leadership and to Nadhim Zahawi for missing out on a seat in the House of Lords. Ms. Badenoch also extended apologies to individuals who were not appointed to the shadow cabinet, indirectly alluding to both Suella Braverman and Andrew Rosindell.

During a speech in central London, Ms. Badenoch emphasized her mandate from Conservative party members to revitalize and reconstruct the party. She reiterated her commitment to the party’s new direction and stated firmly that only Conservatives who align with their policies are welcome, expressing no remorse for those departing.

Addressing the defectors who do not fundamentally oppose their policies, Ms. Badenoch expressed regret for their unsuccessful endeavors in party leadership and cabinet positions, emphasizing the lack of constructive proposals from them and denouncing their actions as political posturing.

Ms. Braverman, the former Home Secretary, recently joined Reform UK, becoming the party’s eighth MP following the earlier defections of Mr. Jenrick and Mr. Rosindell from the Conservative Party. The former Chancellor, Mr. Zahawi, also transitioned to the Reform party earlier this month.

A spokesperson for the Labour Party dismissed the Tories’ internal turmoil, stating that the public is not interested in the complaints of a faltering party. The spokesperson criticized Kemi Badenoch for failing to acknowledge the repercussions of her party’s governance and the financial hardships inflicted on families, asserting that the Conservatives lack sincerity and accountability in managing their party’s crisis.
