“Kent Student Hospitalized with Meningitis After Nightclub Kiss”

Published on

A 19-year-old University of Kent student named Alex Razas spent four days hospitalized due to meningitis after reportedly kissing a girl at Club Chemistry nightclub. Alex attended the club on March 13 after working an evening bartending shift. Within 48 hours, he began experiencing severe throat symptoms following the kiss.

Alex’s friends played a crucial role in his recovery by insisting on taking him to the hospital as his condition rapidly deteriorated. He received intensive antibiotic treatment at William Harvey Hospital, closely monitored by his worried mother. After a four-day hospital stay, Alex was discharged and given a clean bill of health on Wednesday.

Health authorities have identified an outbreak linked to individuals who visited Club Chemistry in Canterbury on March 5, 6, or 7. The total number of meningitis cases associated with the nightclub has now risen to 27, tragically resulting in two fatalities.

In response to the outbreak, health officials have expanded access to preventative antibiotics and the MenB vaccine to contain further spread. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) confirmed the outbreak’s severity, emphasizing the importance of prompt medical attention upon observing symptoms.

Club Chemistry, a prominent nightclub in Kent, has temporarily closed following the incident. The club, known for its longstanding presence in Canterbury’s nightlife scene, canceled upcoming events and prioritized the safety of staff and guests. Concerned individuals are urged to seek refunds for any affected bookings and stay updated on the evolving situation.
