The Royal Family’s dining preferences may conjure up images of extravagant feasts at Buckingham Palace, but a recipe from Clarence House reveals a simpler side to Royal cuisine. King Charles has a favorite dish called ‘Cheesy Baked Eggs,’ a recipe that can be easily replicated in any kitchen.
This dish, shared in 2020 when King Charles was still the Prince of Wales, can be made with various cheeses and a few other ingredients. The King emphasized the importance of good food during the height of the pandemic, expressing concern over the impact of the crisis on British cheese.
To recreate this Royal dish, start by greasing a baking dish and layering it with greens and tomatoes. Spread creamy cheese and basil on top, season as desired, and add optional cold cuts. Create a well in the center, crack an egg into it, pour in double cream, and sprinkle with grated hard cheese. Bake at 180C for 8-10 minutes before serving.
Aside from King Charles, other members of the Royal Family, like Tom Parker Bowles, also enjoy baked eggs. Tom, Queen Camilla’s son, recalls this dish fondly from his childhood, a long-standing favorite at the royal table. His book, ‘Cooking & The Crown,’ features a variety of recipes from different eras, catering to both lavish and everyday cooking needs.
