In the upcoming 2026-2027 season, Krista Scharf, a curler from Thunder Bay, Ontario, will be leading Team Despins as skip. Following the disbanding of her previous team in March after a successful decade of play, which saw multiple appearances at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Scharf is making a comeback to competitive curling with Team Despins.
Expressing her excitement, Scharf revealed that the opportunity to join Team Despins came unexpectedly, as she had initially planned to focus on coaching her children. The team reached out to her a couple of weeks ago due to the absence of Nicole Westlund-Stewart, who is recovering from a back injury sustained in January.
Transitioning to a new team presents a significant adjustment for Scharf, but she is eager to bring her experience to the table and support her new teammates. With a focus on competing for the Northern Ontario championship and securing a spot at the 2027 Scotties, Team Despins is gearing up for the upcoming season.
Scharf highlighted the importance of rigorous practice leading up to the competition in January, emphasizing her commitment to helping the team succeed. Alongside Scharf, the team comprises Robyn Despins at third, Abby Deschene at second, Rebecca Carr at lead, and Westlund-Stewart as the fifth player.
As they prepare for the season ahead, the team is set to dedicate time and effort to honing their skills on the ice, aiming for a strong performance and a shot at the prestigious Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
