“Labour Peer’s London Home Targeted in Burglary Case”

Published on

A man, Sarbast Lokman, is facing charges of burglary, theft, and attempted burglary in connection with two incidents at the London residence of Labour peer Luciana Berger. It is alleged that Lokman attempted to enter the property through the back door on April 11, and when unsuccessful, he stole items from the back garden. The following day, he returned and reportedly accessed a car parked outside the property, making off with items worth £350, including sunglasses, wellington boots, a first aid kit, blankets, clothing, a gift-wrapped candle, car fluid, and loose change.

Baroness Berger expressed feeling “targeted” following the incidents, citing her prominent status in the Jewish community and as a former MP. She had served as the MP for Liverpool Wavertree and held shadow ministerial positions in climate change, public health, and mental health before leaving the Labour Party due to concerns over antisemitism. She later rejoined the party under Sir Keir Starmer’s leadership and was appointed as a life peer in the House of Lords.

Lokman, also accused of an attempted burglary in Enfield, had his trial adjourned due to the unavailability of a Kurdish interpreter. Despite denying all charges, he remains in custody awaiting trial since his initial court appearance. District Judge Annabel Pilling informed Lokman of the adjournment using a translated message on her tablet.
