Labour has surpassed Reform in two significant polls while Nigel Farage engages in a peculiar feud with a bin this summer.

According to polling data from Survation, Labour has taken the lead over Mr. Farage’s party for the first time in over a year. The survey indicates a surge in support for Labour, with the party garnering 26% of the vote share compared to Reform’s 24%.

This shift comes on the heels of recent data from More In Common, which shows Labour ahead by four percentage points, holding 28% against Reform’s 24%. Meanwhile, Mr. Farage is currently embroiled in a challenging by-election in Clacton, facing off against parody candidate Count Binface as his primary competitor.

In a separate survey conducted by YouGov and Sky News, both Labour and Reform are tied at 22%, marking the first time since April last year that the two parties have been neck-and-neck in the polls.

Reform’s aspirations to secure the Greater Manchester mayoralty on Thursday have dwindled, with More In Common indicating that Labour’s Bev Craig is leading at 39% against Reform’s 19%. Mr. Farage had hoped to capitalize on the vacancy left by Mr. Burnham but now faces an uphill battle.

Mr. Farage is under scrutiny due to questions surrounding a £5 million ‘gift’ he received from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne in 2024, which was not declared. Despite facing an investigation, he proceeded to trigger a costly by-election in Clacton, with Count Binface and 32 other candidates as his competition.

The ongoing investigation may resume if Mr. Farage triumphs over Binface next month. In a recent head-to-head poll by YouGov, 48% of respondents prefer Mr. Burnham as Prime Minister, while only 22% support Mr. Farage.

While Mr. Farage has been notably quieter in recent times compared to his active engagement last summer, he continues to face mounting challenges. Moreover, a majority of voters believe his actions are aimed at deflecting attention from the controversies surrounding him.

On Monday, Mr. Burnham downplayed the significance of the More In Common poll, emphasizing the importance of reconnecting with the public and fostering positivity in British politics.

In a comedic twist, Binface revealed his ‘manifesto’ if elected, promising not to accept gifts from crypto billionaires and proposing unconventional policies such as capping bus fares and ice cream prices. Binface also humorously pledged to represent the UK at Eurovision in 2027 and introduced quirky measures like filling potholes with the Labour Party Manifesto.
