A video captured the moment when a heavy goods vehicle sped toward a level crossing while the warning bell rang, leading to a collision with a train that subsequently derailed in Chýnov, Czech Republic. Despite the train’s horn sounding, the lorry continued forward, resulting in the train crashing into the cab, causing significant damage and scattering debris. The impact was so intense that one train carriage derailed, coming to rest diagonally on the tracks with smoke emanating from underneath.

Emergency responders rescued 25 individuals, including 20 passengers, from the train. The lorry driver sustained severe injuries, while the train operator and two passengers suffered minor to moderate injuries, as reported by local authorities.

The estimated cost of damages incurred includes £172,000 for the train, £3,400 for railway infrastructure, and approximately £34,000 for the lorry. Vojtěch Míra, spokesperson for the South Bohemian Ambulance Service, mentioned that the injured lorry driver was airlifted to a hospital in České Budějovice, while the three train passengers with minor to moderate injuries were also transported to medical facilities.

The accident investigation was completed by 5 pm on the same day, and by 7:44 pm, the derailed carriage was lifted back onto the tracks and removed from the site by 9 pm. Rail services resumed operation shortly after 11 pm.
