Lidl is set to introduce its Lidl & Go self-scanning service in an additional 37 stores across the United Kingdom. This innovative feature allows customers to conveniently scan items using the Lidl Plus app on their smartphones while shopping, streamlining the checkout process. The expansion will roll out in stages, starting with stores in Scotland, the South East, and the wider South of England over July. The initial trial of Lidl & Go was successful at seven stores including Airdrie, Cardiff, Epsom, Glenrothes, Kingston, Guilford, and Eastleigh.

Louise Weise, Chief Customer Officer at Lidl GB, expressed satisfaction with the positive response to the initial phase of Lidl & Go, highlighting customers’ appreciation for the control and visibility it offers in managing expenses and shopping at their own pace. The new stores implementing this feature aim to cater to a broader customer base, with ongoing improvements based on feedback received.

In addition to the Lidl & Go expansion, Lidl recently revamped its loyalty program, Lidl Plus, enabling users to earn points for every £1 spent in-store. These points can be redeemed for free products or discounts on future purchases. While the new system offers enhanced flexibility and extended points validity, some customers have raised concerns about the revised rewards structure. Lidl assures users that they may earn additional points through various promotions, doubling or tripling points, or complimentary points on select items.
