Michelle Elman, known for her role on This Morning, provided an update on her health following an urgent hospitalization last week. The respected life coach, aged 33, underwent emergency surgery related to her ongoing struggle with hydrocephalus, a condition also known as ‘water on the brain’ due to an imbalance in cerebrospinal fluid production and absorption.
Michelle, who has lived with this condition since birth, was additionally diagnosed with a brain tumor that had been present since her birth. Despite facing health challenges for years, she recently disclosed undergoing her 19th surgery. In a candid Instagram post, she expressed the toll that five months of consecutive surgeries had taken on her.
During her hospital stay, Michelle shared her perspective, stating, “Perhaps longevity isn’t the ultimate objective. Pardon my grim outlook, but after enduring five months of surgeries, I’ve come to realize that prioritizing a long life may be overrated.”
She further conveyed, “There have been numerous instances where I faced near-death situations or emergency procedures, and my last words to my loved ones were about not desiring a life devoid of activities I cherish.”
Michelle added, “I aspire for my mind and body to function, and if I am confined to a hospital bed, that’s not the life I want. If this is the extent of my time left, I am content with it.”
Acknowledging the uncertainty of her future, she remarked, “I have already surpassed my initial expectations, considering I believed I would not survive past 21. As I approach the five-month mark now, I am uncertain of what lies ahead.”
Michelle emphasized that her focus was not on longevity, remarking, “As a plus-sized individual who has faced health challenges since infancy, I have encountered criticism about my lifespan. However, living a lengthy life is not my primary aim.”
Reflecting on a past near-death experience during brain surgery at age 11, she shared her belief that death brings tranquility, shaped by that significant moment in her life.
Michelle’s recent hospitalization at the start of the Chinese New Year didn’t align with a fresh beginning for her as she underwent surgery. Despite acquiring new scars on her neck and collarbone, she humorously noted her concern for preserving her tattoos upon waking up from the procedure.
