A seasoned litigation attorney, Karen Conti, who had just completed six years in law practice, recently shared a bone-chilling encounter with the notorious American serial killer, John Wayne Gacy. Gacy, infamously known as the “Killer Clown,” was convicted in 1980 for the brutal murders of 33 young men over a six-year period, most of whom he buried beneath his residence in the Chicago area. This heinous spree cemented his position as one of the most prolific serial killers in U.S. history at the time.
Having grown up in Chicago, Karen recalled how Gacy was perceived as the embodiment of fear, akin to a “boogeyman.” Initially incredulous at the existence of such malevolence, Karen found herself thrust into a bizarre turn of events when she was called upon to represent Gacy in his final legal battles while on death row.
As Gacy’s execution date drew near, he reached out to Karen under the mistaken assumption that she specialized in First Amendment law. Intrigued by the opportunity to interact with the infamous criminal, Karen and her team met with Gacy on death row and eventually became part of his legal defense.
Convicted for heinous crimes involving torture, rape, and murder, Gacy awaited his fate on death row for 14 years before his eventual execution by lethal injection in 1994. In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Karen, who penned a book detailing her experiences titled “Killing Time with John Wayne Gacy,” recounted a chilling incident where Gacy revealed a disturbing “Body Book” to her, meticulously organized with color codes and tabs, allowing him to revisit his gruesome acts.
The book contained images and information about his victims, including newspaper clippings, school photos, and even details about their pets. Gacy had compiled this macabre collection through the help of a private investigator, enabling him to relive his horrific deeds while incarcerated. During one unsettling encounter, Gacy callously referred to his victims as unworthy individuals, displaying a chilling lack of remorse and empathy for his heinous actions.
