Four individuals linked to an investigation in London, Ontario, involving explosives and firearms now confront a fresh array of allegations as per recent court records. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji are now confronted with an additional 19 charges, bringing the total count to 31, with some charges being collective and others individual.
The new charges encompass possession of five specific explosive materials, possession of stolen goods, and accessing computer data related to firearm manufacturing. The investigation traces back to January 24, when law enforcement responded to a trespassing incident at Western University, leading to the arrest of one person outside an engineering building on campus. Subsequent inquiries led to the apprehension of the other three at a residence in the nearby University Heights neighborhood.
A comprehensive search was conducted at the residence where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, along with two other properties in Orleans, Ontario, and Gatineau, Quebec. All four accused individuals were either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the male suspects having pursued studies within the engineering department.
Initial arrests involved multiple firearms charges, including the production of a handgun and possession of a loaded restricted handgun. Additional charges have now been laid against Tong, Wang, and Ji, including possession of firearm accessories and another prohibited firearm. Tong and Wang are also accused of handling and carelessly storing a rifle.
Tong, who faces a majority of the charges, faces additional allegations tied to incidents in various cities, such as storing rifles in Orleans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle in an unauthorized location in Quebec. Court documents indicate that Tong possessed a firearms license, but some charges are related to possessing firearms in locations not covered by the license.
Further charges against Tong and Wang pertain to events predating their arrest, with Wang specifically charged with weapon manufacturing between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026. The duo is also accused of breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025.
Court records also reveal a fresh set of charges against Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji for possessing explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide. The accused individuals are also charged with possessing Western University property valued at less than $5,000.
Wang faces an additional charge of accessing computer data related to firearms or prohibited devices, particularly design files usable with 3D printers, metal milling machines, or similar systems for manufacturing devices. Tong faces 28 charges, Wang faces 20, Han faces 11, and Ji faces 13, as the legal proceedings continue for the four individuals, with some in custody and others out on bail. Tong opted not to seek bail and remains detained, while Han was denied bail and returned to custody in February. Wang was granted bail in March under stringent conditions, including 24-hour house arrest and supervision by two sureties, each posting $200,000. Ji is also out on bail without sureties.
