Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood has announced her departure from the BBC in April after over 25 years with the broadcaster. In a statement this morning, she expressed gratitude for the privilege of delivering daily weather updates and thanked her colleagues for their support. Kirkwood, who joined the BBC in 1998, has been a familiar face on BBC Breakfast and across various BBC programs.
Her decision to step away, although difficult, marks a significant moment in her career. Jonathan Munro, Interim CEO of BBC News and Current Affairs, praised Kirkwood’s exceptional contribution to BBC Weather and News, noting her professionalism and accuracy in journalism. Kirkwood’s final appearance is scheduled for April.
Before joining the BBC Weather Centre, Kirkwood received meteorological training from institutions like The Met Office and The Weather Channel. She transitioned into forecasting on the BBC News Channel before becoming the main weather presenter on BBC Breakfast in 2010.
Apart from her weather forecasting duties, Kirkwood has been recognized for her on-location coverage at events like Wimbledon and the Chelsea Flower Show. Her talents were also showcased on “Strictly Come Dancing” in 2015, where she partnered with Pasha Kovalev.
Kirkwood hinted at her retirement plans last year, expressing a desire to spend more time with her husband and embark on new adventures. Despite her imminent departure, her legacy as a respected weather presenter and journalist remains intact.
