A woman who previously weighed 21 stone shared her weight loss journey using injections but faced weight regain when she could no longer afford the treatment. Pamela Phillips, 42, expressed concerns about the challenges of maintaining weight loss after discontinuing weight loss injections, with experts suggesting potential long-term dependency on such treatments.
Struggling with weight issues since her teenage years, Pamela experimented with various diets to manage her weight. Despite losing significant weight during summers, she would consistently regain it in the winter months due to reduced physical activity. In 2010, after giving birth to her daughter, she reached her heaviest weight of 22st 7lbs.
In early 2022, weighing 20st 11lbs, Pamela began using Saxenda weight loss injections, losing three stone within three months at a cost of £170 per month via a private prescription. However, financial constraints forced her to discontinue the injections, leading to weight regain.
Facing back problems that required surgery but being deemed ineligible due to her weight by the NHS, Pamela opted for gastric sleeve surgery in May 2023. Following the surgery, she successfully shed weight, dropping from 20st 8lbs to 11st and has since maintained her weight loss through lifestyle changes.
Reflecting on her journey, Pamela acknowledged that while weight loss injections provided temporary results, bariatric surgery offered a long-term solution. She emphasized the importance of lifestyle modifications and portion control in maintaining her weight loss, expressing satisfaction with her improved health and vitality.
