A Lufthansa Boeing Dreamliner bound for Los Angeles experienced a sudden descent onto the runway at Frankfurt Airport. Multiple Lufthansa workers sustained injuries during the incident at Germany’s primary airport. The airline confirmed to the dpa news agency that an “event” involving a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner took place at approximately 12:45 pm CEST (11:45 am BST) today.
An airline representative informed the news agency that the aircraft’s front landing gear collapsed unexpectedly while it was parked. The incident occurred with crew and ground personnel on board, as passengers had not yet embarked. Several employees were hurt and are presently receiving medical attention.
Authorities are conducting an investigation into the matter, as reported by the German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau. Technicians and support staff are said to be present at the scene.
The airline verified that an “incident” occurred at Frankfurt Airport, Germany’s largest airport, around 12:45 pm CEST (11:45 am BST). The aircraft involved was flight number LH450, scheduled for departure to Los Angeles.
A spokesperson disclosed to the dpa news agency that the airplane’s nose landing gear collapsed unexpectedly while it was parked. An image captured the plane’s nose on the runway during the incident.
“At the time of the incident, crew and ground staff were on board. Passengers had not yet boarded. Several employees were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment,” the spokesperson added.
