A commercial aircraft experienced a mid-air emergency while flying over Europe, reaching an altitude of 5,400 feet. Lufthansa’s LH2249 flight, which departed from Lyon heading to Munich at 13:51 local time yesterday, departed almost an hour later than scheduled. The crew declared an emergency (squawk 7700) due to a gear problem, as reported by AirLive.
Initially flying at a low altitude over French airspace, the aircraft ascended to 10,000 feet upon entering Switzerland. However, around 15:17, it started circling near Lausanne, Switzerland, leading to an alert at Geneva Airport in anticipation of an emergency landing.
The plane successfully landed at 15:39, causing the airport to halt its operations temporarily as the aircraft was “stuck on the runway.” Subsequently, the Lufthansa flight was towed to a remote stand, according to AirLive, and normal flight operations have resumed.
