A man who was acquitted of accusations of exerting coercive control over his late wife has refuted claims of being violent, stating that he genuinely cared for her. Christopher Trybus, aged 44, faced trial for manslaughter amid allegations that he had subjected Tarryn Baird to coercion and sexual violence leading to her tragic death. The prosecution argued that he controlled her movements, restricted her finances, and cut her off from her family.
Tarryn, aged 34, passed away in 2017. However, it was revealed during the trial that she likely suffered from PTSD due to a traumatic event in her past. Mr. Trybus, residing in Swindon, Wilts, asserted that she had fabricated stories to gain attention from healthcare professionals.
During his trial at Winchester Crown Court, Mr. Trybus maintained his innocence, stating he was not present in the country during the alleged incidents. He was ultimately cleared of all charges, including manslaughter, rape, and coercive behavior.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Mr. Trybus expressed deep sorrow over the situation, emphasizing his love for his late wife and denying any intention to harm her. The court was presented with images depicting injuries on Tarryn’s body posthumously, with prosecutors alleging a pattern of abuse, including sexual violence, by Mr. Trybus.
Following Tarryn’s death, Mr. Trybus remarried Bea, who vouched for his character, describing him as the opposite of controlling and coercive. She highlighted the emotional toll the trial took on their lives, expressing fear of losing him to imprisonment.
The trial also delved into intimate details of the couple’s sex life, with Mr. Trybus defending their activities as consensual and pointing out Tarryn’s own purchases of sex-related items. He acknowledged the discomfort of having private matters discussed publicly but understood the necessity of the legal process.
Concerned about the financial repercussions of the legal battle, Mr. Trybus acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his future but prioritized his freedom above material possessions. He reflected on the enduring grief over Tarryn’s death and the ongoing struggle to cope with the aftermath of the tragedy.
