Following the discovery of a deceased man in his 60s outside a house engulfed in flames, a man has been taken into custody.

The incident occurred on Wargon Crescent in Glenmore Park, with emergency responders alerted just before 1am on Thursday after reports of a fire. The victim, a man in his 60s with severe burns, was found outside the burning residence.

During a press briefing, law enforcement confirmed the arrest of a 36-year-old individual with a criminal record who was acquainted with the deceased, indicating a familial relationship. Superintendent Trent King, Nepean Police Area Commander, mentioned plans for forensic evaluation to determine the cause of death.

The police asserted that no prior domestic violence incidents were recorded between the two men. Superintendent King elaborated on the situation, stating, “There seems to have been a confrontation between the two individuals following a break-in at the property, where the front door was forcibly opened.”

He further added, “It appears that an accelerant was utilized, but details about the exact events within the premises are still under investigation.”

According to a statement from NSW police, officers responded to the incident at Wargon Crescent, Glenmore Park, around 12.50am on Thursday. The deceased, believed to be in his 60s, has not been formally identified yet.

Firefighting teams managed to extinguish the blaze, and a crime scene was established as detectives initiated an inquiry. Subsequently, the 36-year-old suspect was apprehended on Parkes Avenue, Werrington, following leads.

The individual received medical attention for minor injuries before being taken to Nepean Hospital under police supervision. Authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information, CCTV footage, or dashcam recordings to come forward.

As the investigation progresses, no charges have been filed at this time.
