A man’s body was discovered in the ruins of a building following a mysterious explosion that devastated the premises.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the significant blast that struck the location in Nottinghamshire. Firefighters battled the blaze on Saturday evening (May 9) that erupted after the explosion occurred.

Residents living nearby on Church Lane in Selston were advised to keep their windows closed due to the smoke that engulfed the area. Emergency responders were alerted at 7.18 pm.

Subsequently, the body of a man in his 90s was found amidst the debris. Despite the efforts of the emergency teams present, he was declared deceased at the scene.

As emergency services operated at the scene, residents from neighboring areas were evacuated. Temporary road closures were enforced at the intersections of Church Lane and Station Road, as well as Church Lane and Stoney Lane, but have now been lifted, as per Nottinghamshire Live.

A collaborative inquiry by the police and fire department is ongoing to ascertain the root cause of the explosion.

Detective Sergeant Millie Gillett, from Nottinghamshire Police, expressed, “This was a tragic occurrence, and our sympathies are with the man’s family during this challenging period. They are receiving support from our team.

“At this point, there is no indication of any broader threat to the public; this is being treated as an isolated event. We appreciate the cooperation of local residents and thank them for their understanding.”

Group Manager Jonathan Holford, representing Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, remarked, “On behalf of everyone at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS), we extend our heartfelt condolences to the man’s family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic incident.
