A young man, Adam Bachir-Belmehdi, was recently found guilty of causing damage to a police vehicle parked outside London’s Bishopsgate Police Station. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 3, where CCTV footage captured Bachir-Belmehdi laying on the bonnet and windscreen of the police car while his friend took photographs. He then proceeded to place his takeaway meal on the car’s bonnet, followed by kicking the vehicle’s side and wing mirror.
Further footage showed Bachir-Belmehdi ripping off the car’s wing mirror, causing enough damage to keep the marked police vehicle off the road for five days. As a result, he was fined £480, ordered to pay £200 in compensation, £85 in CPS costs, and a £192 surcharge at Westminster Magistrates Court.
Police Constable Oliver Gage, who responded to the incident, condemned Bachir-Belmehdi’s actions as unnecessary and childish. He emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated in the City of London and that individuals engaging in such acts would face consequences. Gage also praised the City’s advanced CCTV network for enabling swift response and effective monitoring of suspects in real-time.
The City of London Police, responsible for policing the Square Mile business district in London’s historic center, reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order in the area.
