A man in Kirkby, Stephen McLoughlin, 59, was found guilty of child sexual offenses after stabbing himself in the throat outside the local police station. The incident occurred on August 26, 2022, and McLoughlin was swiftly taken to the hospital by Merseyside Police officers.
Following the incident, McLoughlin appeared in court almost four years later at Bolton Crown Court. He faced charges related to attempting to meet a girl under 16 through grooming, engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15, and trying to communicate sexually with a child. Additionally, he was charged with carrying a bladed item in a public place, and a jury convicted him on all counts.
McLoughlin, a resident of Kirkby, is scheduled for sentencing on April 2 at the same court. The incident outside the police station was captured on video and showed McLoughlin causing harm to himself and being pushed into bushes.
Police described McLoughlin’s injuries as severe at the time of the incident, but he was later reported to be in a stable condition upon being taken from the scene.
