A man from Poland, Marek Hoffmann, has found a unique way to heat his entire home using 133 doughnuts from Lidl. Tired of high heating bills, Marek switched from using wood in his log burner to the more affordable doughnuts.

Marek’s idea stemmed from his desire to save money on heating costs. He realized that doughnuts, being inexpensive and widely consumed, could potentially serve as an efficient heating alternative. Calculating that each Lidl doughnut, providing 440 calories, cost about 2p, Marek compared their calorific value to that of wood.

Through his calculations, Marek determined that 133 doughnuts could produce the same amount of heat as 10kg of wood, thanks to their calorific value of 18.5 MJ/kg. The experiment proved successful, with Marek managing to heat his home for £2.49 using doughnuts, a cheaper option compared to wood, which cost him £3.94.

After creating an air gap in his stove, Marek witnessed the doughnut-fueled heating system in action. Within five hours, the temperature in his home rose from 14°C to 22°C. Amused commentators marveled at the unconventional heating method, with one joking about the remnants of burned sugar and oil on the chimney wall.

The innovative approach garnered mixed reactions, with some finding humor in the idea and others appreciating the cost-effective solution. Despite initial skepticism, Marek’s experiment proved that doughnuts could indeed serve as a practical and efficient heating source.
