A man has been taken into custody following the tragic passing of a nine-year-old girl who was discovered with severe injuries at a commercial property.

Authorities from Police Scotland disclosed that the incident occurred at Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath during the early hours of today.

Subsequently, the girl was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she tragically passed away. Specialized officers are presently offering support to her family.

Law enforcement has initiated an inquiry into the matter. A 35-year-old male has been apprehended in relation to her demise, which is being viewed as suspicious.

Detective Superintendent Nicky McGovern stated: “At approximately 12.02am on Monday, 3 August, 2026, authorities were summoned to Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath following the discovery of a nine-year-old girl with severe injuries.

“She was transported to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she eventually succumbed. A 35-year-old male has been taken into custody in connection with her passing, which is deemed suspicious.

“Her family is receiving assistance from specialized officers as investigations progress.”
