A man, Aland Ahmed, 23, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl in Nottingham in 2022. Ahmed is currently evading authorities after being found guilty in absentia by Nottingham Crown Court. The victim was physically resisted by Ahmed when he forced her into a bedroom and sexually assaulted her without her consent for about five to ten minutes.
The court proceedings revealed that Ahmed fled the country after being charged, leading to the delay in the trial. Judge Steven Coupland highlighted the victim’s traumatic experience, stating that she suffered severe psychological harm, turning to substance abuse and experiencing trust issues and sleep disturbances as a result of the assault.
Despite the absence of Ahmed during the trial, he was sentenced to jail for the rape and was also placed on the sex offender register for life. Nick Corsellis KC, representing the victim, described how she resisted Ahmed’s advances, but he forcefully raped her in the bedroom, leaving DNA evidence on her clothing. The victim’s statement mentioned her struggles with substance abuse and family estrangement following the incident.
Mr. Corsellis emphasized that Ahmed, once apprehended, would serve a minimum of two-thirds of the nine-year sentence. The victim’s recovery process was noted, indicating gradual improvement over time despite the lasting impact of the assault.
