A man suspected of targeting Donald Trump shared a peculiar manifesto with his family before an incident at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. The document, spanning 1,052 words, detailed the shooter’s “rules of engagement” for the shooting and his belief that it was necessary to focus on Trump administration members.
The alleged perpetrator, identified as Cole Allen, began his manifesto by offering apologies to those he deceived, including his parents, colleagues, and students. He expressed regret for causing inconvenience to fellow travelers, luggage handlers, and hotel guests, acknowledging the potential risks he imposed on them.
After reportedly breaching a security checkpoint and injuring an agent at the dinner in Washington DC, Allen, armed with firearms and knives, was apprehended. The incident led to the evacuation of President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump from the venue, where around 2,500 individuals were present. Allen, aged 31 and hailing from Torrance, a Los Angeles suburb, was named as the suspect.
In his manifesto, Allen identified administration officials as his targets, citing his refusal to let a purported “paedophile, rapist, and traitor” escape justice. President Trump refuted the manifesto’s claims in an interview with 60 Minutes, denying the accusations against him. Notably, Trump has faced various assassination attempts, including an incident during his 2024 campaign where he was targeted by gunman Thomas Crooks in Butler, Pennsylvania.
