A participant from the Married at First Sight UK show has been taken into custody on suspicion of rape. According to a recent statement from the Metropolitan Police reported by BBC News, a man in his 30s was arrested on June 18 in connection with an ongoing investigation. The individual has been released on bail while the investigation continues.

The person’s identity, as well as that of the alleged victim, has not been disclosed. The TV series, Married At First Sight UK, is created by CPL, an independent production company, for Channel 4.

The show, where individuals tie the knot immediately after meeting, was a popular production on Channel 4, airing on E4 and All4. All episodes have been removed from the platform.

Earlier in May, the BBC aired a Panorama episode uncovering rape accusations made by two female participants on the show. Another woman alleged a non-consensual sexual encounter. The accused men have denied all allegations.

Following these events, the Metropolitan Police urged any individuals who believe they have been subjected to sexual assault during or after their involvement in the show to come forward.

A Channel 4 spokesperson informed the Mirror that an external review was initiated in April to evaluate contributor well-being on MAFS UK. The review, which is underway, consists of two main components.

The first part assesses the well-being procedures in place during the time the claims were raised, as well as how Channel 4 and CPL managed those claims. The second phase, led by former BBC One Controller Lorraine Heggessey, will determine if adjustments are required in the existing protocols to enhance contributor welfare on MAFS UK. The review process is ongoing.
