Melanie Brown, popularly known as Mel B, briefly adopted the stage name Melanie G during her solo music career. After Geri’s exit from the Spice Girls in May 1998, each member pursued solo projects. Mel B ventured into a unique Urban/R&B and hip-hop style, releasing solo material while still part of the Spice Girls. Her collaboration with Missy Elliott on “I Want You Back” hit Number 1 in the UK charts.
Originating from Leeds, Mel B changed her stage name to Melanie G after marrying Jimmy Gulzar in 1998. She officially embraced this name for her solo rendition of Cameo’s “Word Up!” in 1999. However, she reverted to Mel B after divorcing in 2000.
Her debut album, “Hot,” curated by industry giants like Rodney Jerkins, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis, produced hits like “Tell Me” and “Feels So Good.” Although her second album, “L.A. State of Mind,” did not match the success of her debut, her dance track “For Once in My Life” reached Number 2 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs Chart in 2013.
Currently, Mel B is balancing her TV commitments, global brand partnerships, and a serene life on her Yorkshire estate. She teased surprises for her role on America’s Got Talent, mentioning appearances by fellow Spice Girls Emma Bunton and Mel C during home visits. Mel B also delighted fans by joining Mel C on stage to perform “Spice Up Your Life.”
While fans hope for a complete Spice Girls reunion tour, Mel B emphasized the importance of readiness among all members. Known as Scary Spice in the Spice Girls, her bold persona, infectious laugh, and flamboyant style earned her the enduring nickname.
