After a period of hot and dry weather, the Met Office predicts that much-needed rain will arrive this week. Last Friday, the national weather agency reported that the UK had experienced temperatures of 30C or higher for 13 consecutive days. Central and south-east England also endured the longest recorded dry spell this century, with no rainfall from July 2 to July 15.

Extended periods of dry weather can have severe effects on agriculture, leading to wildfires in various parts of the UK. Fortunately, some regions are expected to receive showers this week.

According to the latest Week Ahead forecast from the Met Office, meteorologist Clare Nasir anticipates “patchy rain” in the far north and north-west of Scotland. There will also be scattered showers in Northern Ireland.

Temperatures in the central belt of Scotland, South Wales, central England, and the south-east could reach 25C to 26C. Although not as high as the previous week, these temperatures still differ significantly.

Tomorrow, a weather front is expected to bring some showery rain, particularly in the far north of Scotland. Eastern parts of Wales, central and southern England are projected to be the warmest areas with highs of 25-27C.

Thursday is set to become more humid with further rain showers forecasted. The Met Office weather maps indicate rain in central England, but the showers are expected to be scattered and light.

Friday may see intermittent rain in central and northern Scotland, while other areas should experience sunny spells. Temperatures could reach 28C in London, with South Wales, the Midlands, and Yorkshire hitting 24-25C.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the Met Office suggests that high pressure is likely to weaken, leading to increased rainfall across central and northern parts of the UK, providing much-needed relief to dry areas.
