Miley Cyrus has come together with her father Billy Rae Cyrus to mark the 20-year milestone of her beloved Disney series, Hannah Montana.
The father-daughter pair will be featured in the show’s upcoming special, which includes an exclusive interview with Miley along with never-before-seen footage. In a heartwarming moment, they perform a quick hip bump handshake. Billy Ray teased the special on Instagram, mentioning, “20 years later and @mileycyrus still knows the old handshake trick.”
Their joint appearance follows speculation of family discord after Billy Ray’s separation from Tish, Miley’s mother, in 2022. During the 2024 Grammys, Miley omitted any mention of her father – now romantically linked to Elizabeth Hurley – in her acceptance speech. A year later, she acknowledged the “challenges” she and her father have faced.
Addressing rumors on Instagram, Miley affirmed her strong bond with her mother while admitting past difficulties with her father. She emphasized that family now takes precedence in her thirties, expressing gratitude for the healing and reconciliation that time has brought.
The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, filmed in front of a live audience, will feature Miley being interviewed by podcaster Alex Cooper from Call Her Daddy, as well as unseen clips from the show.
Running from 2006 to 2011, Hannah Montana revolved around Miley Stewart (portrayed by Miley) navigating life as both a high school student and the famous pop star, Hannah Montana. Billy Ray played a fictionalized version of himself, a country music artist who retired to oversee his children and manage his daughter’s career.
Earlier this year, Miley shared insights from her godmother, Dolly Parton, revealing the impact of their collaboration on Light of a Clear Blue Morning for Dolly’s 80th birthday. Reflecting on her journey, Miley embraced her past as Hannah Montana, acknowledging the show’s pivotal role in her evolution.
Professionally, Miley has achieved significant success, securing her first two Grammy wins in 2024 with her hit single “Flowers” and earning critical acclaim for her ninth studio album, “Something Beautiful.” On a personal note, she got engaged to musician Maxx Morando in December after meeting on a blind date in 2021.
