A Minneapolis resident has come forward alleging that federal agents forcibly removed him from his vehicle and detained him for eight hours without any charges being filed.
Identified only as Brandon, the man recounted being held by ICE on January 11 for over eight hours after participating in protests following the tragic shooting of local mother-of-three Renee Good.
Brandon claimed that his arrest was baseless, stating, “I was arrested for obstruction. I was never formally charged with any offense. It seems I was obstructing them from behind, as we were trailing them when they broke our windows. They pulled me out, placed me in an unmarked vehicle, and detained me for eight hours.”
He detailed his detention at the Whipple Federal building, a focal point for anti-immigration raid protests, describing the conditions as deplorable. Brandon mentioned the lack of food provided and highlighted that the agents present did not display badge numbers, making it impossible to identify them if any misconduct occurred during the detainment.
Despite facing backlash and online attacks branding him as an instigator, Brandon shared that he remains undeterred. He expressed his motivation to stand in solidarity with fellow protesters following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti by federal agents.
Joining hundreds of demonstrators at the intersection of 26th Avenue and Nicollet Street, Brandon witnessed tear gas canisters being deployed by agents around 10:30 am, dispersing the crowd. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara appealed for calm after the incident, urging protesters not to engage in destructive behavior within the city.
