The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced on Monday the arrest of a 51-year-old individual from Montreal for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier faces charges of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, as stated in an RCMP press release. The threats were reportedly communicated via email to various undisclosed recipients, including a senator, according to the police statement.

In addition to targeting the Prime Minister, Porlier also purportedly threatened “all Canadian police officers,” as indicated in the official charge sheet. Authorities confirmed that Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and mischief for setting fire to a church in Toronto in 2017 and was serving probation for those offenses at the time of his recent arrest.

Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, as mentioned in the press release. It is important to note that the allegations against him have yet to be proven in court.
