“Morrisons Employee Fired for Confronting Shoplifter”

Published on

A veteran employee of Morrisons was terminated for confronting a violent shoplifter and has criticized the supermarket chain for its actions. Sean Egan, who had worked at Morrisons for 29 years, was let go after an incident with career criminal Daniel Kendall, who spat at him and acted aggressively in the Aldridge store in West Midlands.

Despite Egan’s efforts, Kendall managed to escape with two bottles of Jack Daniel’s in December. Egan, a resident of Wolverhampton, West Midlands, recognized Kendall as a repeat offender who had targeted the supermarket before.

Egan expressed his disappointment, stating that Morrisons disregarded his long service and penalized him for standing up for what is right. Social media users have shown support for Egan, urging Morrisons to reinstate him. Since his dismissal, Egan has been diagnosed with depression.

Kendall, a drug addict with numerous previous offenses, received a 42-week prison sentence for the Morrisons theft. Egan, who had started working with Morrisons at a young age, followed the company’s policy by attempting to deter Kendall without detaining him, but Kendall turned violent.

Egan emphasized his hard work and integrity, lamenting the financial strain caused by his termination. Morrisons stated that their priority is the health and safety of employees and customers and that they have comprehensive procedures in place to handle incidents like shoplifting while ensuring everyone’s safety.

The Mirror reached out to Morrisons for further comment on the situation, and the supermarket reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all individuals in their stores.
