Moscow Luxury High-Rise Hit by Ukrainian Drone

Published on

A luxury high-rise in western Moscow was hit by a Ukrainian drone, causing damage to walls and scattering debris in the vicinity, as reported by city officials and Russian media sources.

The incident has triggered heightened concerns from Vladimir Putin as the week kicks off with preparations for the annual military Victory Day Parade on Red Square, an event that involves thousands of Russian troops commemorating the end of World War II.

Reports suggest that Moscow is on edge over potential threats of an attack by Ukraine leading up to the parade scheduled for Saturday, May 9, during which Putin is expected to deliver a significant speech.

The drone strike targeted the 36th floor of the Mosfilmovskaya tower, situated in an area known as ‘Russia’s Hollywood’, with images revealing substantial damage caused by the strike around 1 am.

Located just a short distance from the Kremlin, there are unverified claims that the complex houses senior members of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).

Near the high-rise stands an exclusive mansion complex where key figures like Putin’s security council secretary, former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, and the chief of the Russian armed forces’ general staff, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, reportedly reside in heavily guarded residences.

Ahead of Putin’s upcoming event this weekend, snipers and machine gunners have been spotted on the towers and fortifications of the Kremlin overlooking Red Square, as per reports from VChK-OGPU, a Telegram channel with alleged ties to security services, and associated Rucriminal outlet.

To bolster security measures, armored vehicles and anti-drone weaponry are being deployed at the Kremlin, with specialized units stationed on various structures within the complex armed with machine guns, sniper rifles, and advanced equipment.

Additionally, armed checkpoints have been set up at the entrances to the Russian capital to enhance security protocols.

Although Moscow has largely avoided Ukrainian attacks in the past year, there are apprehensions that the city may face heightened risks this week.

Putin has suggested a temporary ceasefire for the parade, but Ukraine is pushing for a longer truce tied to peace negotiations, yet no ceasefire agreement has been reached so far.

Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, mentioned that the entire world is eagerly anticipating Putin’s Victory Day speech, emphasizing its significance in the current context.
