A concerned mother is urgently seeking assistance for her chronically fatigued teenage son. Fin Cormack, 18, has been grappling with a rare and severe health condition, prompting his mother Clare Cormack to plead for help. Describing Fin as a reserved individual whose smile illuminates his surroundings, Clare revealed that Fin’s life has been far from smooth since his birth.
Shortly after he was born, medical professionals raised concerns about Fin’s health as his oxygen levels were alarmingly low. Diagnosed with Ebstein’s anomaly, a rare heart condition, Fin has undergone multiple open-heart surgeries throughout his youth, leading to persistent chronic fatigue.
In 2018, Fin underwent cone reconstruction surgery to address issues with his tricuspid valve, showing initial signs of improvement. However, his health has deteriorated significantly in recent years, causing a decline in his physical capabilities.
Doctors recently delivered the distressing news that Fin is experiencing right-sided heart failure, potentially necessitating a heart transplant, a prospect that Fin and his family are hesitant to consider. Despite the risks associated with a transplant, a specialized team at the Mayo Clinic in the United States has proposed an alternative solution to repair or replace Fin’s damaged valve, potentially delaying the need for a transplant.
To pursue this option, the family must raise up to £200,000 for the procedure. While the timeframe for life expectancy remains uncertain, Clare believes this presents the best opportunity to enhance Fin’s condition, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
With a GoFundMe page already raising over £12,000 for the treatment, a group of 100 mothers from Wirral are organizing an 18-mile sponsored walk in support of Fin. Overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, Clare expressed gratitude for the community’s generosity during this challenging time.
