Mother Seeks Justice for Daughter’s Assault

Published on

The mother of a woman who passed away through euthanasia following a suicide attempt is seeking to locate individuals who allegedly sexually assaulted her daughter.

Noelia Castillo Ramos, aged 25, died on March 26 at an assisted living facility in Barcelona. Noelia became paralyzed in her legs after a suicide attempt in 2022.

Now, her mother, Yolanda Ramos, has revealed that she filed two complaints with prosecutors in Barcelona and Tarragona to initiate formal inquiries into the alleged sexual assaults on Noelia, as reported by the Daily Mail.

She revealed that she found new evidence of the disturbing sexual abuse in Noelia’s diary, which was given to her on the day of her passing.

Noelia detailed in her diary that she was sexually assaulted by her former partner and also mentioned being drugged, given alcohol, and raped by three men in Salou, a popular beach destination.

“Noelia discussed the assaults on TV, and on her final day, she handed me her diary. Upon reading it, many things became clear to me,” Yolanda stated when announcing the complaints.

Following the incidents, Noelia tried to end her own life, resulting in her becoming paraplegic. Subsequently, she suffered from severe depression, leading to her decision to opt for euthanasia, according to reports.

Noelia explained her desire to die on Spanish TV: “I want to go now and end the suffering, period. None of my family supports euthanasia. But what about all the pain I’ve endured over these years?”

Noelia’s death sparked controversy in Spain. Her family strongly opposed her decision to end her life, with her father challenging the decision through legal means alongside a conservative group, the Spanish Foundation of Christian Lawyers.

His appeals against the approval of Noelia’s euthanasia request by an independent panel of medical professionals, lawyers, and ethics experts in 2024 were unsuccessful in the Spanish judicial system, leading the case to reach the country’s Supreme Court.

A final appeal to the European Court of Human Rights was also turned down.

Noelia passed away on March 26 at the age of 25.
