Mother Takes Son on £300 Paris Birthday Trip Instead of Party

Published on

A mother chose a unique way to celebrate her son’s birthday by opting for a budget-friendly trip to Paris instead of a traditional party in the UK. Monica Stott, a 37-year-old mother of three from Wrexham, usually travels without her kids but decided to bring her 11-year-old son on this particular adventure.

Their whirlwind 24-hour trip to Paris cost them £300 in total, serving as a more memorable and cost-effective alternative to an expensive birthday party. Monica explained, “I believe young children may not remember everything, so spending a large sum on a party that nobody will recall seemed unnecessary.”

Compared to the typical £250 expense for a class party at venues like the cinema or bowling alley, Monica found the Paris trip to be a worthwhile investment, emphasizing the importance of quality one-on-one time with each child.

The duo enjoyed iconic Parisian landmarks, indulged in local delicacies, and wrapped up the day comfortably in their own beds, all before midnight. Monica noted that her other children were unfazed by their absence, showing excitement for their future birthday trips.

The idea of spontaneous day trips was inspired by Monica’s middle son’s desire to visit Barcelona, which evolved into a tradition where each child chooses a destination. For Monica and her eldest son, Paris was the chosen city, resulting in an adventurous and unforgettable experience.

Their journey began the night before to avoid early morning travel hassles, with a stay at a budget hotel costing £100. The following day included visits to Sacre-Coeur, enjoying pastries at Place du Tertre, exploring the Louvre, Tuileries Garden, the Eiffel Tower, and a cruise along the River Seine.

Filled with delectable treats and exploration, they ended the day with a meal at the airport before heading back home by 10 pm, back in their beds by 11 pm. Monica highlighted that while they didn’t cover everything Paris has to offer, the mix of iconic sights, leisurely walks, and spontaneity made the trip special.

Monica shared tips for maximizing extreme day trips, including arriving the night before, traveling light, booking tickets in advance, and utilizing public transportation. She emphasized that with proper planning, quick day trips abroad can be an affordable and enjoyable experience for anyone.
