The mother of a British graduate who was fatally shot by her father during a visit to his Texas residence is urging American investigators to reconsider the case. Jane Coates, a resident of Warrington, Cheshire, is convinced that authorities overlooked crucial evidence of negligence surrounding her daughter Lucy’s tragic demise on January 10, 2025.
Lucy, a Boohoo employee, traveled with her boyfriend to stay with her father, Kris Harrison, in Prosper, Texas. Harrison, who had a history of alcohol addiction, fatally shot Lucy following a dispute about Donald Trump. Despite suspicions of manslaughter, Harrison was not charged as a grand jury in Collin County chose not to indict him.
Jane Coates believes that Harrison’s actions were fueled by alcohol-induced recklessness rather than intent to harm their daughter, a sentiment echoed by a UK coroner. Describing Lucy as someone who embraced a wide range of emotions, Jane emphasized her daughter’s vibrant personality and laughter.
The tragic incident unfolded on the day Lucy and her boyfriend were scheduled to return to the UK. An argument between Lucy and Harrison about gun ownership escalated, leading to the fatal shooting. Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with Harrison claiming the shooting occurred accidentally while showing Lucy his Glock 9mm handgun.
Despite initial denials of alcohol consumption, Harrison later admitted to drinking on the day of the incident. The UK coroner’s report highlighted the reckless nature of the shooting, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into Harrison’s conduct under the influence.
While the Prosper Police Department maintained that they conducted a comprehensive investigation, Jane Coates hopes that the findings of the UK coroner will prompt US authorities to reassess the case. Harrison, who still resides in the same house where the tragedy occurred, has not provided any comments on the matter.
