An unidentified British artist known as Mr Phantom managed to evade hotel security where the cast of the TV show “Celebrity Traitors” was staying. He placed numerous artworks around the premises and projected a large image onto the hotel’s facade overnight.
This bold act unfolded over two nights at a hotel close to Inverness Airport, catching the attention of the celebrities filming for the popular BBC series who were inside the hotel. Security guards were left puzzled as more artworks kept appearing throughout the property.
Celebrities including Maya Jama, Bella Ramsey, Jerry Hall, and James Blunt were likely asleep when the artist infiltrated the hotel to execute his daring plan. The following morning, guests and staff were greeted with provocative artworks strategically placed in hallways and common areas.
The collection of Mr Phantom’s artworks installed in the hotel is valued at half a million pounds, although they are prints and not the original pieces which were initially sold for £555,000. The installation, set against the backdrop of “Celebrity Traitors,” blurs the boundaries between entertainment, politics, and reality.
Mr Phantom, in an interview with Mirror, emphasized that while millions watch the show to identify celebrity traitors, the real traitors are determined elsewhere, in Westminster, the media, and influential institutions that shape public perception. He highlighted the ongoing performance of loyalty in various spheres, emphasizing that the game continues endlessly but in different arenas.
The unauthorized installation comes at a time of heightened scrutiny regarding political leadership and public trust in the UK. Mr Phantom, whose true identity remains a mystery, is gaining recognition for his bold and thought-provoking public interventions challenging authority, image culture, and power dynamics.
There is no official association between the artworks and the BBC, Studio Lambert, or the production of “Celebrity Traitors,” a fact that seems intentional on the part of the artist.
