M&S Expands Store Presence, Creates 800 Jobs

Published on

M&S has outlined a plan to expand its store presence by targeting 500 potential locations for future openings. The company also announced intentions to launch or renovate 20 M&S stores, generating 800 new jobs. Among the imminent openings are new branches in Northwich, Abingdon, and Stonehaven.

In the upcoming months of 2026, M&S is set to unveil new stores in Farnham, Northampton, and Godalming, which will be the largest standalone food store for the brand. The retail giant has recently introduced customers to new stores in Cannock and Bath and is eyeing expansion into untapped areas like Hove, Marlborough, and Wallingford.

M&S is actively seeking sites capable of accommodating trading space of around 18,000 to 25,000 square feet across the UK. Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, expressed confidence in the brand’s growth trajectory, with plans to open more stores nationwide.

Following a successful holiday season, M&S witnessed a surge in food sales, increasing by 5.6% compared to the previous year. However, the fashion, home, and beauty division experienced a decline of 2.9% in sales. The company attributed lower in-store spending to reduced foot traffic on high streets, exacerbated by disruptions from a cyber attack.

Looking forward, M&S aims to enhance its operational efficiency and adapt to evolving consumer trends by revamping its stores and streamlining costs.
