In the Peak District, a body of a 26-year-old man was discovered at the Nine Ladies Stone Circle in Stanton Lees, Derbyshire, during a summer solstice event. The incident has prompted Derbyshire Police to initiate a murder investigation.
Authorities were alerted to the situation around 1:38 pm on Monday, and it is believed that several individuals were present in the area between June 19 and 23 for the summer solstice celebration. Police are urging anyone with information or footage from the event during that timeframe to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Although the victim has not been formally identified, his family has been notified and is receiving support from law enforcement. Detective Inspector Tony Owen, leading the inquiry from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), described the man’s death as a “brutal” act.
Owen urged individuals who attended the summer solstice event to cooperate with the authorities, emphasizing the importance of gathering information to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. He highlighted the significance of even minor details that attendees may possess, stating that such information could be crucial in providing justice for the victim’s family.
The Nine Ladies Stone Circle, according to English Heritage, is a historical site from the early Bronze Age, associated with a folklore tale of nine ladies turned to stone for dancing on a Sunday.
