Legendary singer Neil Sedaka, known for hits like Breaking Up Is Hard to Do and Laughter in the Rain, has been hospitalized in Los Angeles at the age of 86. According to TMZ, Sedaka was not feeling well and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Authorities mentioned that deputies assisted the fire department in responding to a medical request. While Sedaka is reportedly recovering, no further details have been disclosed.
Sedaka, who gained fame in the 1960s, has had a successful career in the music industry. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Despite a period of relative quiet after his initial success, Sedaka continued to write songs for other artists, collaborating with ABBA on their 1973 hit Ring Ring and working with Elton John.
His notable collaborations with songwriters Howard “Howie” Greenfield and Phil Cody have produced famous tracks like (Is This The Way To) Amarillo by Tony Christie and Stupid Cupid, a hit for Connie Francis in 1958. Sedaka has made appearances on various television shows throughout his career, including The Carol Burnett Show, Saturday Night Live, and a guest judging spot on American Idol in 2003.
Active on social media, Sedaka engaged with fans through platforms like YouTube during the COVID-19 lockdowns. In his most recent public performance, he and his grandson Mike performed a duet on Fox5’s morning show Good Day New York. Outside of his musical career, Sedaka is married to Leba Strassberg, with whom he has two children: Dara, a singer, and Marc, a writer. While he generally keeps his family life private, he did share a heartfelt post celebrating National Grandparents’ Day on Instagram.
