A 33-year-old music teacher who is married has admitted to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old male student. Naomi Tekea Craig pleaded guilty to various charges related to the abuse at Mandurah Magistrates Court in New South Wales, Australia. She worked at Frederick Irwin Anglican School in Perth and is accused of engaging in ongoing sexual behavior with the student for over a year.
Craig, who was on maternity leave at the time of her arrest, was said by the police to have had a child with the boy she allegedly groomed. Following an investigation, she was charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child aged between 13 and 16, and also faces allegations of possessing child exploitation material.
In addition, she faces charges including five counts of sexually penetrating a child under 13, indecently dealing with a child under 13, and indecently dealing with a child between 13 and 16. Her attorney, Reid Hogan, informed the court that she intends to plead guilty to all charges.
According to court documents, the offenses occurred between 2024 and 2025. Tracey Gray, the school principal, informed parents of the arrest in a letter, stating that the teacher had been arrested for child-related offenses not involving any current students at the school. The school assured parents that the safety and well-being of their children remain a top priority.
The misconduct began in August 2024 and continued until Craig’s arrest in December, as revealed in court. Police Commissioner Col Blanch stated that they believe the baby born to Craig recently was fathered by the student she allegedly assaulted. He confirmed that a DNA test had been conducted.
The Western Australian Police previously stated that she engaged in persistent sexual behavior with the student, who was a minor at the time. She appeared in court via audio-link and pleaded guilty to all charges. Her case has been expedited to the district court for sentencing on March 27. Craig was granted bail under strict conditions, including no contact with the boy and no unsupervised contact with any children other than her own baby.
The teacher married her long-time partner in 2019 and had a child in 2022. A police spokesperson emphasized the importance of investigating such offenses and providing support to victims.
