Kiki Iriafen recorded 21 points and 13 rebounds while Shakira Austin contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Washington Mystics secured a 93-82 victory against the undermanned Toronto Tempo on Wednesday evening, marking their eighth consecutive win at home.

The defeat formally eliminated the Tempo (10-25) from playoff contention in their debut season.

Washington dominated the boards, outrebounding Toronto 43-27, with Austin registering her 16th double-double of the season and Iriafen clinching her 15th. Iriafen showcased an impressive 8-of-12 shooting performance from the field.

For Washington (21-14), Michaela Onyenwere tallied 14 points, connecting on four 3-pointers, while Sonia Citron contributed 13 points and six assists. The Mystics scored 38 points in the paint, coming close to extending their streak of 12 consecutive games with 40 or more points inside.

In the absence of Toronto’s top three scorers – Marina Mabrey, Brittney Sykes, and Nyara Sabally, who were resting during the second game of a back-to-back, Kiki Rice led the Tempo with 19 points, with Aneesah Morrow adding 13 points and eight rebounds as the expansion team suffered their 12th consecutive loss.

Washington kicked off the second quarter with a 12-0 run, establishing a 37-24 lead as the Tempo missed their initial five shots. The Mystics continued their dominance in the second quarter, outscoring Toronto 22-9 to head into halftime with a 47-33 advantage.

Onyenwere extended Washington’s lead to 60-42 midway through the third quarter by sinking back-to-back three-pointers.

Up next, the Tempo will host Portland on Friday, while the Mystics will remain at home to face Minnesota on the same day.
