NASA has postponed the Artemis 2 Moon mission originally scheduled for February 6. Due to cold weather, a simulated “wet dress rehearsal” of the rocket will now occur on February 2, pushing the earliest possible launch date to February 8.

The rocket for the mission has been transported to the launch pad at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The expedition, lasting a week-and-a-half, will carry four astronauts in the Orion capsule, serving as their exploration vessel.

Despite concerns about the spacecraft’s readiness, the crewed voyage is nearing reality, with four astronauts set to orbit the Moon for the first time in over 50 years. The astronauts, including Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, are being monitored closely to prevent any illnesses before lift-off.

The possibility of delays for the voyage has always loomed, with NASA confirming additional launch windows later in February, as well as slots in March and April if further delays occur. The final launch date will be determined after officials review data on the rocket and ground systems’ performance.

NASA’s Artemis campaign aims to facilitate scientific discoveries, economic opportunities, and prepare for crewed missions to Mars. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman hailed the mission as a significant advancement for human spaceflight, emphasizing the importance of the insights gained for future lunar exploration.

The agency will provide a 24/7 livestream of the launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, accessible on YouTube. Viewers can witness the mega rocket launch at any time of day or night.
