New Zealand has decided not to participate in Donald Trump’s Board of Peace in Gaza, expressing reservations about its current setup and objectives. The Foreign Minister emphasized that New Zealand acknowledges the United States’ leadership in collaborating with regional allies to promote peace in Gaza. He stated that while New Zealand sees a potential role for the Board in Gaza in alignment with UN Security Council Resolution 2803, other regional nations have already committed to supporting the board’s initiatives, making New Zealand’s involvement less impactful at this point.

The Foreign Minister highlighted New Zealand’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations and stressed the importance of ensuring that the Board’s activities align with the UN Charter. He stated that there needs to be clarity on the scope of the Board’s work both presently and in the future. Although New Zealand will not be part of the Board in its current form, the country will continue to monitor its progress closely.
