Eve, 29, had initially visited the hospital on September 29, 2022, with normal fetal heart rate monitoring. However, concerns arose later that day when she was admitted to the maternity ward due to potential infection risks following her waters breaking at 36 weeks of pregnancy. Despite initial normal observations, a critical lapse occurred around 10pm when Eve was asleep, and necessary checks were not conducted.
Upon awakening at 1.30am and noticing Sonny’s reduced movements, Eve raised alarms, but medical personnel misjudged the situation, leading to delays in providing urgent care. Sonny was eventually born via emergency cesarean at 2.03am on September 30, 2022, after a distressing sequence of events in which crucial minutes were lost.
Tragically, despite efforts in neonatal intensive care, Sonny’s condition deteriorated rapidly, prompting Eve and her partner Thomas to make the heart-wrenching decision to transition him to palliative care, where he passed away on October 3, 2022.
