Official records from the county court expose a judgment issued against him in June 2024, just before he assumed office as an MP, related to a debt of £9,400. The creditor and nature of the debt remain undisclosed.

Reform UK responded to the discovery of the judgment by Channel 4 News, stating that Farage was unaware of the case. In contrast, Labour Party chair Anna Turley criticized Farage’s financial transparency, implying a lack of public confidence in his potential to manage public finances if Reform UK gains power.

The default judgment was finalized on June 13, ten days after Farage’s MP candidacy announcement. Such judgments persist for six years, potentially hindering credit access. A spokesperson for the Reform UK leader clarified that the judgment was mistakenly sent to an outdated address, leading to the default ruling. Additionally, they mentioned previous instances of unacknowledged debt claims faced by Farage.

Notably, the judgment was linked to Farage Media Ltd’s registered address in Leigh on Sea, a company that was dissolved in April of the same year. Despite Channel 4’s report of Farage disputing the County Court Judgment (CCJ) claim, questions persist about his financial affairs, particularly regarding a substantial gift from a crypto billionaire before the general election.

The Parliamentary Standards Commissioner is investigating the undisclosed £5 million gift from Christopher Harborne, which was not declared as required for new MPs. Farage defends the gift as a personal, unconditional contribution, emphasizing that it wasn’t used for buying a house without a mortgage. However, financial analysis suggests discrepancies in how the TV pay-out was handled within his media company, Thorn in the Side Ltd.

Amidst these financial controversies, Farage’s narrative around the purpose and impact of the £5 million gift has drawn scrutiny.
